Study links antidepressant use during pregnancy to higher ADHD risk – The Boston Globe

Previous research findings suggesting that babies born to mothers who took antidepressants during pregnancy have a higher risk of developing autism scared many women with depression off of the drugs, but a new study from Massachusetts General Hospital researchers provides some comforting news.


"Children exposed to antidepressants while in the womb were 80% more likely to develop attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder than unexposed peers, according to preliminary findings of a study published in the journal Molecular Psychiatry. Women suffering from depression or any mental disorder had a greater likelihood of having a child with autism regardless of whether they used antidepressants while pregnant, the researchers found".
